About: A long stalked, tall aquatic plant often found in shallow water or the muddy banks of slow moving water courses. Flowers June to August.
How to identify: Look for the oval leaves, often heart shaped at the base, and pink tinged flower petals.
Where: Grows everywhere in the UK and Ireland but less dominant in the north of Scotland.
Fantastic fact: The flowers of water plantain open in the afternoon, often between 1pm and 7pm.
