About: Found in a variety of harsh habitats including heathland, acidic soils, open woodland and even coastal areas. It particulary like dry, well drained soils. Flowers between July and September.
How to identify: Look for dark pink bell-shaped flowers in clusters and short dark green needles.
Where: Found throughout the UK and Ireland with the exception of the East Midlands
Fantastic fact: Insects such as honey bees, bumblebees, moths and butterflies find this plant very attractive.
