Nature Stars: 70
About: A bush cricket of rough grassland and woodland rides, as well as damp habitats.
How to identify: One of the smaller bush crickets, the long-winged conehead is easily identified by the combination of green coloration, brown stripe down the back, pointed head and long wings. The similar Short-winged Conehead, as the name suggests, has short wings, barely half the body length.
Where: South and eastern England. Spreading northwards.
Fantastic fact: The two species of Conehead have been spreading in recent years, expanding their range as a result of climate change.
