What are nature stars?

About: A small fish, up to 10cm long. Sometimes gathers in large shoals. Found in streams and rivers, less commonly in lakes. Feeds on invertebrates and fish eggs.

How to identify: A small fish, brown and greenish barred above with a silvery belly. The male's belly turns pink in the summer, but lacks the spines of sticklebacks.

    Minnows are really cool!!! I see them in the river in a wood that we visit.

    I have caught quite a few of these while pond dipping, or is it stream dipping?
