About: Our largest and commonest pigeon, about 40cm long. Woodpigeons build a flimsy stick nest in trees, and can be found pretty much anywhere but are particularly common in farmland, as well as being common in parks and gardens. Pigeons eat seeds and leaves.
How to identify: Our largest pigeon. Easily told from the similar Stock Dove and Feral Pigeons by the white patches on the neck and wings.
Where: Found everywhere.
Fantastic fact: As well as being a common resident, large numbers of Woodpigeons migrate here from the continent in the autumn and winter.
