About: A sparrow-sized bird of reedbeds, wetlands and farmland. Buntings feed on seeds and invertebrates. In the winter they join mixed species flocks of buntings, finches and sparrows to feed on seed in farmland.
How to identify: Buntings are streaky brown birds. The male Reed Bunting has a black head and black throat, with a white collar and white moustache. Female buntings can be very difficult to tell apart.
Fantastic fact: Reed Buntings will sometimes visit garden bird tables, especially in cold winters.
