About: Grebes are diving waterbirds, feeding on small fish and aquatic invertebrates. A little bit larger than a Coot. Grebes nest on floating platforms made up of water weed.
How to identify: The largest and most often seen grebe, with impressive plumes and crests on the head.
Where: Can be found on lakes and reservoirs throughout the country.
Fantastic fact: When their chicks are very little, grebe parents will sometimes carry them on their backs!
