About: A small, colourful crow, about 35cm long. Jays are mainly pink, with a black tail, black moustache and black and white wings with a blue patch on the wings. Jays are birds of woodland, parks and gardens.

Where: Widespread, although absent from the north of Scotland

Fantastic fact: Jays collect acorns in the autumn, burying them around their territory to store them for winter. Many of them get forgotten, and turn into oak trees.
